"Lasamp"

MDF lamp cut by laser

This last project is a simple one, made for a brief that asked us to produce an object using laser cutting, built from more than three parts. I decided to make this rustic, raw-style ceiling lamp for my own home.

As you can see, it is made up of a series of MDF elements held by a central part that organises the rest. Its structure would not hold without the two small parts at the top and bottom of the lamp. Finally, the central part carries a hole sized to take the lamp holder.

Materials

  • MDF
  • Lamp holder
  • Bulb

Below is an exploded view showing exactly how the parts are distributed. The real advantage is that the material makes the structure very light, which opens up work like this — all the more so for designs meant to hang from a ceiling.
